Fethiye was recently graced by the arrival of the Club Med 2, one of the world’s largest sailing vessels. Measuring an impressive 182 meters in length, this French-flagged ship could not dock at Fethiye Port due to its size. Instead, 283 adventurous tourists were ferried ashore by smaller vessels.

Mayor Announces New Infrastructure Initiatives

Addressing longstanding traffic concerns in the city, Fethiye Mayor Alim Karaca unveiled an ambitious plan to construct a five-story parking garage in the heart of the city. This project, which has taken two years to secure planning approval, will accommodate between 1,300 and 1,500 vehicles across two underground and three above-ground levels.

Mayor Karaca disclosed that coordination with the Ministry is ongoing, and if necessary, a loan will be secured to fund the approximately 650 million lira project. Furthermore, to enhance local transport, there are plans for electric vehicles to facilitate shuttle services between the garage and local businesses or official institutions, along with road enhancements targeting the Ölüdeniz and Hisarönü-Kayaköy routes.

Karaca expressed the urgency of the parking project, stating, “This project is essential. After the current public announcement period ends and Ministry approvals are obtained, we will move forward to solve Fethiye’s serious parking problem.”
