Applications Open for the 2025/26 Global Mentoring Programme

The Magenta Project, a significant initiative aimed at promoting equity and inclusion within sailing, has announced the opening of applications for its 2025/26 Mentoring Programme.

This highly acclaimed program, now in its eighth year, uniquely pairs aspiring female sailing professionals with seasoned mentors across the global maritime landscape. The nine-month course operates from October 2025 to June 2026, offering structured guidance, industry insights, and tailored career support for women targeting professional achievements on and off the water.

Background of the Programme

Since its inception in 2018, the Magenta Mentoring Programme has positively impacted nearly 300 female mentees, engaging over 100 mentors, and welcoming many distinguished professionals in the sailing industry. The initiative stands as the only one of its kind in the competitive world of sailing and continues to break down barriers for women pursuing careers in maritime fields.

Voices from the Community

The CEO of the Magenta Project, Vicky Low, emphasized the programme’s transformative potential stating, “This programme is crafted to dismantle obstacles and create new avenues. Whether you’re a mentee seeking direction in your career or a mentor ready to share your experiences, this opportunity contributes to meaningful change in the professional sailing sector.”

Kate Jordan, a participant of the programme, shared her experience with Swiss sailor Justine Mettraux, who made history in the Vendée Globe as the fastest woman to complete a solo, non-stop circumnavigation. Jordan noted, “Navigating a career in sailing has no straightforward path, but the mentorship provided was instrumental in carving my unique journey. Through focused mentorship, I learned how to set realistic goals and keep my motivation alive.”

Programme Pathways

The structure of the Magenta Mentoring Programme includes seven core pathways, designed to align mentees with mentors in relevant industries:

  • Inshore: Targets competitive inshore sailors including keelboat, dinghy, and match racing, offering support in rigging, rules, and coaching.

  • Offshore: For sailors aiming to progress in offshore sailing, the pathway covers essential navigation skills, safety planning, and fundraising.

  • Foiling: Focuses on those with foiling experience looking to transition or advance in the foiling class.

  • STEM: Geared towards careers in marine sciences, engineering, and data analytics.

  • Media: For individuals interested in communications, marketing, and content creation related to sailing.

  • Race Management & Support: A pathway for those pursuing roles in event organization and race management.

  • Leadership: Aimed at women aspiring to leadership roles within the sailing and marine industry.

How to Apply

Mentees: Open to women globally, aged 18 and older, who are currently engaged in or looking to pursue careers in the sailing or related marine sectors. The application process for mentees culminates on 31 August 2025.

Mentors: Established professionals from various fields are invited to mentor the next generation of female sailors. Mentors receive comprehensive training and access to a supportive network of peers.
